THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE

LESS BUSINESS PASSING

Levels held firmly in the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, but dealing slackened appreciably in comparison with tlio activity recently recorded In ' Government loans buyers continued to display greatest interest in per cents at the lower offers made following tlio payment of interest at the opening of the week. For September, 1937, 5£ per cent stock, support was lifted 2s 6d to £lOl 2s 6d. Firm conditions existed in banks, for which there was good inquiry. Commercials of Australia were released twice unaltered at 13s Bd, and the prefcrenco issue was also secured at the steady price of £6 16s. An improvement of ljd was registered in New Zealands, which sold at 46s 4£d. For New South Wales, support was increased 5s to £26 15s during the day and secured a selling quotation 5s lower than the opening price at £27 ss. Other sections were very steady, with an improved range of inquiry from buyers, while holders operated fairly sparingly. Ground was gained by GoldsbroughMorts, which had sale 2d firmer at 23s Bd. The balance of the day's transactions was confined to the mining section, in which late rates were well maintained. Blackwaters were taken 3d easier at 12s 6d, but the market was stronger than recent levels. Golden Points moved up a penny in dealing at 7£d and King Solomons were a similar amount lower in business at Is 7d. Mount Lyells continued to gather strength and two parcels changed hands at 19s 7d, an advance of sd. For more, holders asked 20s, but the demand was easier at tho close.
