FAVOURABLE BALANCE SATISFACTORY POSITION SYDNEY, A tie. 10 The exports from the Commonwealth for the financial year 1931-32 exceeded the imports by £40,193,000, compared with a favourable balance of £27,944,000 in 193031. For the 12 months the favourable com- ! modity balance was £30,691,000, and the j gold and silver balance £9,502,000, com- j pared with £15,296,000 and £12,648,000 j respectively for 1930-31. For the year 1931-32 the favourable balance, due to commodities plus the current production of gold and silver, totalled £34,000,000. With the moratorium on ; war debt this balance is sufficient to meet public obligations abroad and to leave about £7,000,000 for private i interests and dividends. The ten years show an excess of imports j over exports amounting to £43,675,445. j reduced by last year's result to £3,482,000 excess of imports. Iri a period of 13 years prior to 1931-32 there was a, net excess of exports amounting to £11.939,774. Die excess of exports was produced in live years, for which the gross figures were i £119,370,786; but in the other eight years j an excess of imports over exports totalling j £107,431,012 reduced Ihe net balance to the figure given.
