[fiiom mm own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Wednesday A slorv of differences between settlers at Mangatangi was told in tho Pukekoho Police Court 10-dav, when Walter Earnest Youngman, a farmer, was charged before Messrs. F. Perkins and 1"). MeC. Armstrong, J.P.'b, with assaulting Georgo Sime Johnston at Mangatangi 011 July 13. Georgo S. Johnston said ho had accompanied another farmer, Norman Nixon, to Youngman's farm"as Nixon had a letter to deliver to Younginan. He (Johnston) was a witness to the delivery of the. letter. Witness said Youngman picked up a stick and then dropped it and rushed at him and commenced to punch him. He did not hit Youngman, but simply hung on to him. Norman Edward Nixon, a farmer, of Pokeno, gave corroborative evidence. The defendant, Walter Youngman, said Johnston moved toward him and he picked up a stick. When he dropped it a minute or two later, Johnston grabbed him and they had a scuffle until Nixon parted them. The justices said they considered that Johnston had certainly brought a lot of tho troublo on himself. The polico had, however, brought tho case. Youngman had at least gone so far as to take up tlio stick. He would be fined a nominal penalty of £2 and costs.
