The opinion that tho Auckland ElectricPower Board collected in street-lighting charges a sum beyond the value of the service rendered was contained in a report furnished to the One Tree Hill Borough Council last evening by a member, Mr. Lloyd Mandeno. ■Mr. Mandeno said the cost of lighting to the borough was £1442 a year, entailing an addition of 2|d to the rates. The whole of the installation, which was initiated in 1925, remained the property of the board. The cheapest type of fitting had been selected, and tho annual charge was £6 18s 6d a laiiip. The annual charge in Christchnrch was £2 10s, in Dunedin £2 lis, in Invercargill £4 and in Wellington £4. Tho board's return from the salo of electricity to the whole of tho consumers was 1 l-3d a unit. It wa s decided to forward the report to tho board.
