ROTORUA
f Alice-Sit-By-the-Fire," by J. M. Barrio, was the play chosen by the Literary Circle for their reading" recently at tho residence of Mrs. R. E. Stewart, in Sophia Street. Miss Doreen Hamilton received the guests. Tho readers w ere ; —Mrs. A. 0. Randerson, Mrs. Ford, Mrs. McLean, Miss D. Hamilton, Miss Clara Sharpe, Miss Margaret McKcnzie, Miss Joan Hodgson, Miss E. Robinsop and Miss D. Hodgson. The.patients of the Government Sanatorium were given a delightful evening s entertainment by. members of tho St. Luke's Girls' Club, under the auspices of the Rotorua Women's Club. Orchestral items were given by Mr. Heley's orchestra. Miss K. Kingon and tl'e drill girls gave an excellent exhibition of drill. Miss Olive Beamish gave several songs. Costume songs wero contributed by Miss Jean Winslade, Miss Olga Shiritze and Miss Ethel Sharpe. An old-world dance was performed by Miss Enid Pilkington. A recitation by Miss Ethel Sharpe was followed by a" humorous sketch by Miss E. Hichcus, Miss Gwen Dillon and Miss C. Kelly. Supper was provided by the Women's Club, after which one of the patients passed a very hearty vote of thanks for the most enjoyablo programmo.
