Thd iecond annual ball of thfr combined staffs of the head office and branches of tho North Auckland Farmers' Cooperative, Limited, was held on Friday evening in tho Castilian Cabaret, Whangarei. The ballroom Was beautifully decorated with coloured streamers, nikau palms and silver ferns, one end being arranged as a lounge for cards for non- ! dancers. There was an attendance of over 200 people, visitors being, pl-esonb from most of thij northern centres. Tho Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Whimp and Mr. K. Excellent music was provided by Mr. Ces. Wright's orchestra, and extras were played by Mrs. C. J. Malloy, Miss V.'Kelly, Miss M. Whimp and Mr. Les. Davidson. Campbell. Miss F. Campbell, Miss N. Coleman (Tangowahine). Women's Olub Party The Whangarei Women's Club Celebrated its 12th birthday on Monday afternoon. Tha social hall of the club \Vft3 beautifully decorated with flowering shrubs, and tho tea table was arranged with bowls of violets and anemones. Ihe president of the club, Mrs. Harman Smith, received the members wearing ft black tailored costume relieved with white and black felt hat. After an appropriate speech by the president, a short programme of musical and elocutionaiy items was rendered, tho following contributing Pianoforto solos, by Madame Rolfe-Smith; songs, by Mrs. G. Woolley; recitations, by Mrs. T. Griflin; and musical monologues, by Mrs. G. H. Morrish. The birthday cake, decorated with candles, was lighted by Mis. J. Holmes, secretary, and cut by the president, Mrs. Harman Smith. Miss Jean Stevenson national general secretary of the YW C A., who is visiting vV nangarei, delivered a short and interesting address.
