AMATEUR TOURNAMENT A wrestling tournament organised by the Kden and Mount Roskill Ex-Servicemen's . Club to augment funds to relievo unem- | ployed ex-sorvicemen in the district was ; held in tho Capitol Theatre, Dominion Road, ! last evening. Besides an excellent programme of amateur wrestling bouts and i pictures, George Walker, assisted by S. ! Dixon, gavo an exhibition of holds and counters, followed by a demonstration workout. A burlesque bout was held between D. Williamson, a midget, and K. Kenneth, a a Cft. light-heavy-weight amateur. Officials were as follows: —Keferoe, Mr. G. Huttcr; timekeoper, Mr. H, Catterall; announcer, Mr. H. C. Sidford. Results were as follows: C. Steero (Y.M.C.A.), list. Gib., beat A. Way (Eden), list? 41b., by one fall. Steere look tho fall in the second round with a body press after Borne hard work. This was a good bout. C. Jones (Mangere), Bst. 10lb., beat C. Andorßon (Ley's), Est. 131b., > by two . falls to one. After a fas), opening Anderson took a fall with a semi-Boston early in tho first round. Jones equalised with an octopus. This was a spectacular display between two good amateurs. C. Kelly (Taylor's), Ost. 61b., beat A. Eeesing, Ost. JJlb., by two falls to one. Koesing after fionie fast work pinned hia opponent with a bodypress early in _ tho opening round of a lively bout. Kelly equalised with a submission fnll frohi a crucifix in tho second, but had to work hard to win tho deciding fall with a Japanese arm-bar. C. Jones (Mangere), Sst. 10lb., beat Kisha Bana (Ley's), 75t.'131b., by ono fall. Jones' weight told in tihis catch-weight contest, in which lie secured tho only fall with a twisted arm-baT. , N. French (Y.M.C.A), Ost. 31b., beat E. Thompson (Eden), Ost. 31b.. by two falls to one. French took the first fall with, a press in the opening round. Thompson with a similar hold equalising in tho second. A cradle hold decided the match. V. ltowlo (Y.M.C.A.), lOst. 31b., boat F. Adams (Eden), Ost. Olb., by two falls to ono, with two presses in tho first and third rounds, whijo Adams took ft fall with an arm-stretch in the second round. L. Pickering (Eden), 9st. Olb., beat W. Williamson (Y.M.C.A.), Ost. *lb., by a submission fall with a cradle splits, lhia was a fine and spoctaculnr exhibition by two finished performers. WALKER AND DEMETRAL After the unsatisfactory ending to tha last Walker-Demetral bout patrons cf the sport will fully approvo the-Auckland Wrestling Association's action in matching tho pair in a special challenge return bout at the r lqwn Hall next Monday evening. By his Bhojvmg against Walker last Monday Demetral proved liis claims that he is a much improved exponent, and he had Walker plainly worried throughout. There were many who thought the result might have gone the other way but for the unexpected climax. Demetral will bo eager to prove to his supporters that he is a belter man than Walker. On the other hand. Walker i 3 expected to show some of tho fine wrestling and ringcraft which earned him his reputation durjng the past seasons. Both men have been undergoing etrenuoue training and are reported fit.
