THE Y.W.C.A.
Sir, —I have always held the belief, in common, I suppose, with the general public, that this is an excellent institution, and have been glad that my girls belonged to it and took an active share in its work. There is one point, however, that I fail to understand, and that is the apparent absence of any recognised hour for closing its doors. Surely whoever is in authority cannot be aware that the girls often do not arrive home till 11 at night, and sometimes later. If it is' allowed, surely, then, more consideration could be shown for the parents of the girls, if not for their own health, by making, say, 9 p.m. the closing time. This would mean that the girls would be in bed by 10, «6t too early an hour for those who have to be in town again by 9 a.m. I trust that this matter has oniy to be mentioned to be set right. Father of Girls. [The letter was referred to the Y.W.C.A., and in reply it was stated that girls from 12-18 met at the Y.W.C.A. in weekly clubs, and were dismissed at nine or nine-thirty p.m. Girls over 18 were dismissed in weekly clubs about 10 p.m. Party nights were always arranged for previously, and parents should notify girls if they must be home at a certain hour. Many adult groups met in the buildings, which were open until 10.30 p.m. The close co-operation of parents with authority over any undue lateness of girls would obviate many difficulties.]
