MONEY BY FRAUD
UPHOLSTERER CONVICTED ORDER FOR RESTITUTION Charged with forging a cheque for £5 -15s, with intent that it should be acted upon as though genuine, and obtaining £5 15s from A. J. Nation by means of a valueless cheque, Thomas Daubnsy, aged 35, upholsterer, appeared in the Polico Court yesterday before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M. Tho police offered no evidence on the forgery charge, and accused entered a plea of guilty on the other charge. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that on January 11, 1930, accused called on an acquaintance and asked him for a cheque form, saying he required it for his employer, who wished him to draw the weekly wages. The form wag given to him and he filled it in, and took the cheque to Mr. Nation, who wished it. Accused then wrote a note to the man from whom he had obtained the form, relating what he had done. He had cashed three cheques in Wellington in 1928 and went to prison for it. Counsel said accused claimed he had told Mr. Nation what ho had doirc, as well as writing to the other man. This at least should be in his favour. Accused was working, and would make restitution if. given a chance. Accused was convicted and ordered to como up for sentence if called on within 12 months. He was also ordered to make restitution of £5 15s.
