BROADCASTING FOOTBALL
LEAGUE TEST OMITTED DECISION IN FUTURE GAMES Mr. G. I. Field, Epsom, writes:—"May I be permitted space to inquire if you can inform me why station IYA omitted to broadcast last Saturday's important Rugby League match between representative English and New Zealand teams ? Rumour has it that a minor dispute' arose between the executive of IYA and the New Zealand League Council. Including myself, thousands of listeners, I am sure, were greatly disappointed at the failure of IYA to broadcast a match in which undoubtedly much public interest had been aroused. Can you also inform me if the third and final League test, to be played in Auckland will be broadcast or not ?" " There were negotiations between the Eroadcasting Board and the League council, but they broke down," said Mr. L. Barnes, director of IYA, when the letter was referred to him last evening. There was no dispute, however, he said. All the negotiations were carried out from Wellington An account of the secojid test at Christchurch was to be broadcast, but he had no knowledge of any arrangements for the third test at Auckland. " We simply decided not to have the first test match broadcast," said Mr. C. A. Snedden, president of the New Zealand Rugby League, when interviewed with regard to the matter. He confirmed Mr. Barnes' statement that there was no dispute, also the fact that the Chrischurch match would be broadcast. " The New Zealand League Council has yet to consider whether the third test match at Auckland will be broadcast," he concluded.
