UNLIGHTED BICYCLES

REPLY TO CRITICISM VIGILANCE AT OTAHUHU A reply to recent criticism of the supervision of unlighted bicycles in the Otahuhu district appearing in a letter published in the Herald on Monday last was set out in a report by the traffic inspector to the Otahuhu Borough Council last evening. The traffic inspector said tho Otahuhu borough limit was apparently being confused with that of tho Mount Wellington Road Board, which controlled the stretch of tho Great South Road from Anne's Bridge at Westfield to Saleyards Road, and the One Treo Hill Borough Council, which supervised tho road from Anne s Bridge to Penrose. During the past three months 37 prosecutions for cycling without proper lights had been taken to the Magistrate's Court, and these figures did not include juveniles. The Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, said ho had discussed the matter with a member of tho Auckland Automobile Association, who had admitted that the name of Otahuhu was used in a broad sense. The council recorded its appreciation of ( the inspector's services.
