LOCAL BODIES' LOANS QUESTION OF AUTHORISATION [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday Tho Acting-Minister of Finance, tho Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, stated to-day that hi 3 attention had been drawn to a press statement suggesting that information be, obtained whether the Local Government Loans Board had sanctioned the raising of any loans by the Thames Borough Council or tho Thames Harbour Board. Mr. Forbes remarked that with two exceptions which had been referred to, all loans for those two local authorities were authorised to be raised before the Local Government Loans Board commenced to function. The Local Government Loans Board Act came into operation in 1926, and on April 1, 1927, the Loans Board approved of two 10 per cent supplementary loans, authorised under section 19 of the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1926, for completing loan works previously authorised by a poll of ratepayers.
