WORK OF Y.W.C.A.

PAST YEAR REVIEWED £2500 DUE IN LEGACIES In spite of tho difficulties of tho times the work of the Young Women's Christian Association has been maintained in such a way as to continue to make a vital contribution to the welfare of the community, states the report, which will be presented at the annual meeting on Monday. " Tho amount of hospitality supplied by the association to the unemployed has been a very heavy drain on the resources," states the report, "and although gratitude is expressed for the £l5O Government grant, the sum has been greatly exceeded and that deficit has had to be met from current expenses. This fact makes the association all the more ready to appeal to the public for support. The number of free meals has risen to as many as 200 during one month, and an average of 100 free beds a month has been supplied. " In reviewing the year's work from a financial point of view, there are everywhere evidences of the prevailing slump. Estimated credits are considerably iess | than budgeted for, but it is gratifying to note that while the standard of work has been maintained the debts are not correspondingly high. Public subscriptions have dropped by £l2l on last year's figures, but while £239 less has been collected through subscribers decreasing or stopping their amounts, £l2O has been made up with new subscribers. " The overdraft at the close of tho financial year stands at £lBBl, but two quarters' interest remains unpaid. During the year further .bequests of £IOOO from the late Dr. F. J. Rayner and £250 from the late Mr. G, Winstone have been notified. There is now £2500 due in legacies." The membership roll showed a total of 840 women, while there were 211 who were not financial, and it was hoped that 1 they would soon rejoin. There were 271 senior girls and 165 girl citizen members The total membership was 1487.
