The Sydenham Club, which won the Canterbury liugby Union's senior championship this year, has not been successful for n quarter of a century and so the win did not. come out of its turn. Sydenham gained similar honours in 1888. 1889, 1905 and 1007. P. Hart, tho West Coast representative, who was selected for the first Rugby League test between England and New Zealand, had to stand down owing to a leg injury. Ho is now recovering quickly and intends to play for the West Coast against England next Wednesday. A few days before leaving Sydney the All Blacks visited the last resting place of a former All Black, D. McGregor, and laid a wreath on his grave at llookwood. Jin was a team mate of W. J. Wallace, who so successfully managed the team which returned to Wellington yesterday. The English Rugby League and tho Australian Rugby League have agreed to send two representatives each to America next year to exploro the possibility of arranging a series of matches there between England and Australia, and the ultimate establishment of the game in America. The fine progress made by pupils of the Blockhouse Bay School in their first year of swimming instruction was shown by the following number of certificates issued recently by Mr J. W. Bissett, J.P.: — Fifteen for 25 yards, 20 for 50 yards, four for 220 yards, two for 880 yards, two for life-saving proficiency. There are teams whoso popular appeal has nothing to do with their position in the county cricket championship, says an English cricket writer. Personality counts for more than points. Among such, and they arc rare, stand Sussex. Hiey may not score faster than their rivals, i'hey may not field quite so well as Gloucestershire, but their cricket escapes the stereotyped. "Wager," Epsom, inquires:—A backs the Englishmen against New Zealand and gives B five points in. Say the result of the game is England 10, New Zealand 5. McDonald, of Marlborough, is in many respects more representative of his country than any other of the tourists. McDonald is number five in tho rowing eight and was with the oarsmen at the British Empire Games in 1930, but he is perhaps better known as a footballer. Ho went away with the New Zealand Maori team which toured England, France and Canada in 1926 and in 1927 was in the Manawhenua fifteen that won tho Ranfurly Shield. In 1929 he was in tho South Island team, and last year was again a member of tho Maori team.
