KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR
ELDERLY WOMAN'S DEATH CAR DRIVER EXONERATED The adjourned inquest concerning the death of Mrs. Jemina Yeates, aged 77, of 1 Brown Street, Ponsonby, who received fatal injuries when sho was knocked down by a motor-car in Ponsonby Road on July 13, was concluded before Mr. W. R. MeKean, S.M., coroner, yesterday afternoon. It was stated in evidence, that the accident occurred at about 7.30 p.m. It was raining at the time and deceased was crossing the road with an opened umbrejla in front of her. Visibility was poor. The car was travelling at a speed of from 15 to 20 miles an hour on tho correct side of the road and after the collision stopped within 6ft. The coroner returned a verdict that death was due to shock, following injuries received when sho was struck by a motorcar driven by William Edward Oughton. "The evidence docs not show any negligence on tho part of tho driver of tho car," added Mr. McKean. "This is one of those regrettable accidents that will occur."
