THE WRITERS' CLUB
At the weekly mooting of the Writers' Club, members were invited to relate reminiscences of their own childhood, and a very entertaining collection of true stories was offered. Mrs. Wilson told of tho one and only occasion on which she dined with Royalty—the late Maori king Mahuta. Another story contributed by a country member, Miss Audray Argall, told of a night with a panther in far-off India. Mrs. Ryburn's encounter when a child with her first turkey, also of very tender ago, was almost as thrilling as the panther story. "Putting the clock back" proved a very popular pastime for the aftejnoon. Mrs. Harrison Smith, some of whose delightful water-colour paintings of native flowers havo lately been purchased by the Lady Bledisloe, offered a prize of an original painting of native kowhai for a literary contribution from the Writers Club.
