EX-SOLDIER'S SUICIDE
WAR DISABILITIES RETURN i RESULT OF THE EARTHQUAKE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] GISBORNE, Monday An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of Thomas Barbour, agod 48 years, whose body was found on his mother-in-law's farm on Saturday with a gunshot wound in the forehead. The coroner, Mr. P. H. Harper, returned a verdict that doath was due to a gunshot wound, self-inflicted, while deceased was in a state of mental depression. It was stated in evidence that deceased was an Imperial war pensioner, and, in addition to losing an arm, suffered from shell shock. Before coming to Gisborne he was in tho Hawke's Bay earthquake and was then removed to hospital. A medical officer at tho hospital had reported that deceased's nerves had suffered severely and his war disabilities returned as a result of tho earthquake.
