"These witnesses were subpoenaed and they should be here," said the coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., after a constable had made a fruitless search of tho Court buildings for the missing men. " I am afraid I will havo to adjourn the inquest until it suits the convenience of these witnesses to come to the Court," remarked Mr. McKean to Senior-Sergeant O'Grady, who represented the police. " Will you pleaso get in tOtoch with them and see what explanation they have to offer." Evidence was given by two witnesses who were present that deceased was struck by the motor-car while she was crossing Ponsonby Road at about 7.30 p.m. on July 13. The car was travelling at from 15 to 20 miles an hour on the correct side of the road, and pulled np within its own length after the collision. It was raining at the time and visibility was poor. Deceased was taken in an ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, where she subsequently died. In adjourning the inquest until this , afternoon, the coroner remarked that although there did not appear to have been negligence on the part of the driver, he wished to hear the evidence of the witnesses who had failed to attend the Court before delivering his verdict.
