VEGETABLE GROWING
DISAPPOINTING RESPONSE WELLINGTON MEETING LAPSES Only slight support was given to a meeting called at Karori, Wellington, last week, to discuss a scheme for tho growing of vegetables by the unemployed. There was an attendance of only eight, and of this number three were relief workers. In view of tho object of tho meeting, tho promoters had expected a greater measino of interest to be shown by those who stood to reap the benefit—tho unemployed. With tho poor attendance, it was felt that no good purpose would bo served by discussing any vegetable-growing scheme, and after the names of thoso present bad been taken the meeting lapsed. Tho Karori Horticultural Society, which is interesting itself in tho project, is meeting at an early date, and it hopes to then arrange for a further public meeting to consider tbo scheme. The president of tho society, Mr. W. M. Page, said tho short notice given was apparently tho cause of the small attendance.
