July SO Tlio Buenos Aires correspondent of the New York Times says tho century-old boundary dispute between Paraguay and Bolivia over the possession of Gran Chaco, the vast wilderness between the inhabited parts of the two Republics, apparently lias reached a virtual state of war. It is believed that a formal declaration i:i a matter of hours. From Asuncion and La Paz, the respective capitals, came reports of several minor engagements over Uie possession of forts within the area, in which several combatants were killed or injured. A warlike spirit prevails in both countries and there are heavy enlistments, subscriptions and supplies of money. Bolivia's demands include an outlet to tlie Atlantic via the Paraguay River. It insists that further mediation by neutral countries is futile. Although Paraguay is admittedly inferior iti military equipment, apparently it is determined to defend its position. Bolivia is said to have 50,000 welltrained and modern equipped men ready for action.
