Smith, wife of Captain Henry Abel Smith and daughter of the Earl of Athlone, form- / erly Governor-General of South Africa, gave birth to a daughter on Thursday at Kensington Palace. Mother and child are said to be doing well. Lady Abel' Smith, formerly Lady May / Cambridge, was married to Captain Abel Smith at the church in Balcombe, a village in Sussex, on October 24 in the presence of Queen Mary, the Prince of Wales, f Prince George, the Luke of Gloucester, the Duchess of York, and other members of the Royal Family. The bride broke tradition by omitting the word " obey " from her vows. / Lady May's husband is an officer m the Royal Horse Guards. He is a son of the late Mr. Francis Abel Smith, a wealthy / banker. He served in South Africa as A.D.C. to the Earl of Athlone, 1928-31. His romance with Lady May began at ,' Capetown. He is a. dashing polo player. 1 His family seat is Beau Manor, in Leicestershire.
