ADMIRALTY TANKER

RETURN OF THE NUCULA OIL FUEL FROM SAN PEDRO An arrival in port last evening was the Admiralty oil-tanker Nucula, which returned from San Pedro, where she loaded a full cargo of oil fuel. En route the vessel met H.M.S. Dunedin at Nukuhiva and H.M.S. Diomeae at Bora Bora and replenished both warships' oil fuel bunkers. Before the Nucula left Auckland on June 2 trouble occurred over the manning of the vessel, because the wages of the new crew were to be reduced 5 per cent, in keeping with similar cuts that had been made in other Government departments. The Seamen's Union officials refused to sanction members of the union offering their services and in consequence a crew was engaged without further reference to the union. After medical inspection in the stream last evening the Nucula berthed at the Sheerlegs Wharf to pump the remainder of her oil fuel cargo into the naval tanks at Dcvonport. The work is expected to be completed to-morrow and the vessel Lr. to bo docked on Wednesday morning for, cleaning and painting, preparatory to leaving again for San Pedro to load another oil fuel cargo.
