Amodeo, of Seacliffe Avenue, Belmont, is on a visit to Napier. Mrs. C. Richard, of Honolulu, and family arc staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. A. Campbell, of Ko-rangi, Nortlicoto, are visiting Parakai (Helensville). Miss Rogers, of Stratford, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Grand llotcl. Mrs. Huon Buisson, of Hauraki Road, i Takapuna, has returned from a visit to | Rotorua. Mrs. J. llalligan returned to Wellington from Auckland on Saturday, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Cook. Mrs. Vincent Lorigan and her daughter, Isabel, Svho have been visiting Auckland, have returned to To Kuiti. The Carlson Revue Company gave a performance on Saturday evening at tlie Brighton Birkdale, for the entertainment of the local unemployed. Mrs. J. Caiman, of Fremantle, Australia, is visiting Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Myers, of Karori. Mrs. Caiman will later tako up her residence in Auckland. Sir Joseph and Lady Kinsey (Papsnui Road), old and greatly esteemed residents of C'iiristchurch, will celebrate their diamond wedding on Monday, August 15. Nearly 300 women from all parts of the Dominion, especially from the country districts, attended tho annual conference of the Women's Institute of New Zealand, held in Wellington last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Nicoll, of Ashburton, are leaving for Wellington on Tuesday evening on the first stage of their journey to England. Their daughter, Mrs. D. V. Donaldson, of Cashmere Hills. Christ church, will accompany them to Auckland. Tho North Devonport Ratepayers' Association dance, held at the Pirate Ship, at Milford 011 Saturday evening, was attended by a very larjjfh number of dancers and a most enjoyable time was spent. Several large parties from tho city and from Northcote and Birkenhead attended. Dance music was supplied by tho Pirate Ship Orchestra, who included a number of oldtime favourites in their selections. The Women's Progress Club (Inc.) met on Wednesday afternoon at tho Higher Thought Temple, Wellington Street. The speaker was Dr. Vcre Poliss, Ph.D., ol Melbourne, who gave a very interesting talk on " The Purpose of Life." The Temple quartotto rendered " Barcarolle,' from " Tales of Hoffman," and Gounod': " Meditation." A very pleasant afternooi closed with tea. Members of the St. Andrew's Anglicai Ladies' Guild, Pukckohc, tendered farewell last week to Mrs. J. W. Wallis (Tauranga) are travelling together on a pleasure tour. Thev came by tho Ormonde, which put in two days at Naples, enabling some of the passengers to visit Rome. They have friends to visit in the Midlands, and they will attend the Shakespearean Festival at Stratford-on-Avon, states our London correspondent. England, Scotland, Ireland and tho Continent are all to be toured in due course. Tho Thames Girls' Club held its monthly At Home Inst week in the Druids' Hall, Newton. There was a large attendance, and the function proved most successful. Excellent., dance music was supplied by Morrow's Orchestra. The gathering was organised by a committee comprising Mrs. P. McGregor, president; Miss Aitken, treasurer; Miss Surmail, secretary; Mesdames Aitken, Davison, Stubbing, Andrews, MePherson, Miller, Wright, Gribblo, McGeehan, Nicholls and Taylor, and Miss Gillespie. The Epsom branch of the AV.G.T.U. met on Thursday afternoon in the Methodist Hall. Mrs. Neal presided. In response to the roll-call each member gave a temperance fact. A reading wag given by Mrs. Benfell from "The Wet Parade," by Upton Sinclair, and ft recitation rendered by Mrs. Kirkpatrick. Reference was made to tho day being ''Memorial Day" and mention was made of tho work of many fine men and women who had championed the temperance cause in tho early years of its existence. A five hundred evening in aid of the Milford Girls' Surf Life-saving Club was held on Saturday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. Armitage, of Pupuke Road Milford. Tho prizes, which wore presented bv Miss A. Armitage, tho captain of tho club, wore won bv Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Lloyd, Mr. Brown and Mr. Sharp. Among the plavers were Mrs. H. Armitage, Mrs. W. Armitage, Mrs. Lloyd, Mrs. Maddren, Mrs. Ogben, Mrs. Edgar, Mrs. Brown, Mis Shilton, Mrs, Shcrriff, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Wright, Miss C. Shcrriff, Miss A. Armitage, Miss M. Allen, Miss J. Lloyd, Miss Streton, Miss D. Maddren. A very enjoyable evening's ente.rta.inment was given to Che inmates of tho Auckland Infirmary last week. concert party organised by Messrs. A. ' Recs-Georgc and J. Wallaco Gill staged the humorous sketch '' Iho Bathroom Door." The parts were taken by Misses Ariell, Smvtho and Lnmont, Mrs. Ranson and Messrs. Recs-George aijd Gill. Miss Peak played pianoforte solos, including one of her own compositions; Mr. T. Stewart gave a violin solo, and Mr. Taylor, of the Jubilee Institute for tho Blind, plaved a cornet solo. Ho w.-»s accompanied by' Mr. Gordon, of the same institution. Mr. Gill, Mrs Hanson and Miss Marsack sang, and a duet was given by Mrs. Ranson and Miss Smytho. The annual meeting of the Avondale Croquet Club was held recently Mrs. Exler presiding. Peeling reference was inado to the death of Mrs, Walker, one of the oldest. members of the club. After the report and balance-sheet had been read tho prizes won during the season were presented by Mrs. Exler.
