FINAL FOR CHATHAM CUP AUCKLAND Y.M.C.A. BEATEN VICTORY FOR HAMILTON TEAM [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday After a close and excitins contest Hamilton Wanderers defeated Auckland Y.M.C.A. hy a single goal in the Auckland provincial final of the Chatham Cup competition at Seddon Park. Hamilton, yesterday. The winners will meet Wellington Marist in the North Island final. On the run of play the Wanderers teum was fortunate to win, although it was handicapped by the loss of Schonan early in the match. Y.M.C.A lost many great opportunities by lack of finish in front of the goal, but in midfield play excelled in combination and control of tho ball. Christie, the visiting centre-half, was the outstanding player of the day, the two fullbacks. Bentley !tnd Ross, also playing well. Wanderers possessed a tower of strength in Raven, the goalkeeper, who repeatedly saved in the face of strong attacks. The visitors won the toss and wore first to attack, the ball going out near the corner flag. A few minutes after the commencement the home team lost Schonan, who retired with an injured ankle. A promising Y.M.C.A. movement, initiated by Humphries, looked dangerous, but Giirdioer luckily intercepted when Kay appeared certain to score. A melee in the goal-mouth saw Wanderers hard pressed, but Raven made a splendid save from' Hamilton's shot. Wanderers then attacked, Cavaye taking tho ball down the left wing and centring to Black, whose shot at goal grazed the bar. Following a strong Y.M.C.A. movement. Wanderers returned play, Stewart swinging tho ball to Cavaye, who centred to Black, tho last-named's shot being blocked by Cowie in goal. Raven, in the Wanderers goal, made two brilliant saves in succession. Half-time came with the visitors attacking, neither side having scored. The opening stages of the second spell saw Y.M.C.A. defending, Cowie. in goal, proving very safe. The home side was tunate when a Bhcit from Mowat struck tho bai. The home teim then pressed, Corkiir dale breaking away from half-way and placing a clever pasE to Black on the right wing. Black's pas 3 found Stewart in position, tho centre-forward heading into the net well out of Cowie's reach. A further Wanderers' attack finished with Cavaye, whose sho'i was handled cleanly by Cowie. The last-named was charged over the jine by Corkindale, but, fortunately for Y.M.C.A., managed to prevent the ball from crossing into tho net. Tho last 20 minutes of the match saw the visitors making determined efforts, but the defence proved too sound. The final score wis:—Hamilton Wanderers, 1; Auckland Y.M.C.A., 0. Mr. J. MATCH AT HIKTJEANGI AUCKLAND SUFFERS DEFEAT [from our own cobrespondent] WHANGAREI, Saturday In glorious we<ither, and with the ground in splendid order, the North Auckiand Football Association representatives decisively defeated the Auckland representatives by four goals to one at Hikurangi to-day. There was a good attendance and the spectators were given a splendid exhibition of the code in a fast, open game. The Auckland representatives lacked combination in the earlier stages of the game. The first score was the result of good kicking by Caldwell giving Queripel the opportunity for a shot at goal, the ball hitting the post, and from the rebound Aekers shot a goal. The Northerners were pressing consistently, several. shots narrowly missing their obje-tive. Dunsmore. for Auckland, was plaring particularly well at this stage. Aekers put in a fast shot which Morris brilliantly saved. Auckland was pressing hsrd when half-time came with ilie score: North Auckland, 1: Auckland. 0 Shortly after resuming Queripel shot a goal from a brilliant piece of play between Wilson, Rops. Shepherd and Queripel, who headed in. Gill was playing well for Auckland, his headwork being particularly good. North Auckland again attacked. Shepherd goaling. As the result of an incisive Auckland movement Hislop scored a fine goal. Aekers carried play to his opponents' territory, and Badgers goaled, making the final score: North 4; Auckland, 1. Mr. R.
