CHICAGO COMMUNISTS CHICAGO, July 2S What appears to *liavo been a nationwide plot to undermine the banks_-wa» revealed by Federal agents who raided the hotel room of George Rowland, an alleged Communist, of Pontiae, Michigan. The officers found a number of documcnts detailing a "whispering campaign" against the banks throughout the Middle West, It is understood that the technique of j the so-called Communists consisted ef clandestinely telephoning to heavy depositors declaring that various banks were not safe and that they were expected to close. It is believed that these tactics , were responsible for the heavy withdrawals from a number of the Chicago banks in June, when many failed. , .
