FALL INTO HARBOUR
CYCLIST AND MACHINE YOUTH HAS NOSE BROKEN A cyclist, Verdun Farnsworth, aged 16, son of Mrs. K. Farnsworth, of Queen Street, Northcote, had an exciting experience at Northcote yesterday morning, when he rode over the wharf on his bicycle and had a narrow escape from drowning. The youth was riding down the wharf approach to take passage by the vehicular ferry leaving at 7.10 a.m. The brake broke when it was applied, and the jerk caused the rider's face to strike his machine and he was stunned by the impact. The bicycle with its rider continued and ran over the end of the vehicular landing int-o the water. The immersion restored consciousness and the lad swam to the wharf and climbed back to safety. He was attended by Dr. R. G. Dudding, his injuries consisting of a broken nos.» and bruises.
