WINTER-FLOWERING SHRUBS

The two varietien of daphnes, the red arid the white, (indica rubra and indica alba), are general favourites with everyone. They are well-known dwarf-growing evergreen shrubs, producing highly fragrant flowers. There is also a variety with prettily variegated leaves. Daphnes are now in full flower and worthy of a place in every garden. They require a deep loamy, well-drained soil. New Zealand daphnes, pimelia longifolia and gnidia, are fine, handsome-flowering.shrubs. Daphne Genkwa, a Japanese deciduous species, produces the greatest profusion of small lilac flowers during the spring. Daphne cneorum is a European trailing evergreen species. • Daphne laureola is the spurge laurel of Europe.
