FARMERS' TRAFFIC LICENCES
Sir—l notice that the Minister of Transport is inviting the opinions of various local bodies on the question of farmers' traffic licences. I hope he will also invite the opinion of the farmers concerned in the matter. Since they arc injz the piper in this case, they should at least have a voice. I find on examine irig my rate notice that I P a y per annum general road rate, exclusive of hospital rate, local loans, etc. In addition, because I desire to cart manure and produce £o and from the statiftn, and to maiket, I find that I am put on the same footing as a carrier who is constantly on the road, whereas my truck does not average one day per week on the highway. That decidedly is paying twice for one concession—the right to use the road. Since meeting taxation in its various forms seems to sum up the farmers' prospects now and for some time to come, it behoves the powers that be to distribute the burden as equitably as possible. Hoping farmers' organisations will make an effort to remove this injustice. Not A Limousine.
