BAY OF ISLANDS COMPANY MARKETING POOL SUPPORTED [by telegraph—own correspondent] WHANG AREI, Thursday Tho annual general meeting of shareholders of tho Bay of Islands Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, was held at Ohaeawai yesterday, Mr. A. C. Kingston, chairman of directors, presiding. In moving tho adoption of the directors' annual report and balance-sheet, Mr. Kingston staled that the past season had been noted for two records —a low price for butter and a great increaso in production. Prices had decreased about 10 per cent and production had increased 25 per cent, the result being that the company had paid out to suppliers £12,233 in excess of that paid out during tho previous season. A discussion took place on tho subject of tho paymeut of subsidies for cream cartage to certain suppliers. A resolution was carried to tho effect that a committeo of the board of directors bo set up to in-" vestigate tho whole question. The chairman outlined action taken at various conferences of dairy companies to discuss tho pooling scheme. Mr. S. W. Smith moved: "That this meeting expresses the opinion that pool marketing is essential for tho dairy factories of North Auckland." He said; "Our present methods are not a system and every dairy farmer knows that improvements in marketing must be made." The motion was carried almost unanimously. A letter was received from the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, asking fqr an expression of opinion on the advisability of granting a licence for another butter-grading store in Auckland. The chairman outlined the considered opinion of the directors and moved that the meeting express disapproval of the issue of a further grading store licence at* Auckland, it being tho opinion that the division of service now being given would not be in the best interests of the industry. The motion was carried unanimously. THE KAIPARA COMPANY YEAR'S RESULTS SATISFACTORY The 21st annual general meeting of the Kaipara Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, Ltd., was held at Helensville on Wednesday, a large number of shareholders and suppliers being present. The chairman, Mr. A. Hanson, referred to the low prices ruling and said he considered tho result of the year's operations very satisfactory, with a pay out of 12d per lb. net for superfine butter-fat. He noted with alarm that tho figures relating to herd.testing showed a drop during the last three years. Ho commented on the activities of the Epipire Marketing Board and emphasised the importance of farmers buying British goods. The report and balance-sheet, with the directors' decision to pay 6j per cent dividend on paid-up shares, were adopted. Mr ; A. Hanson was re-elected chairman of directors Messrs. Hutchison, Elliffe and Cameron were reappointed auditors. ORTJRTJ -F AIRBTJRN COMPANY INCREASED OUTPUT An increased production of slightly over 20 tons of butter is shown in the annual report of tho Oruru-Fairburn Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, Limited, North Auckland. The total output for the year was 355 tons. The butter sent forward on consignment, totalling 224 tons, realised an average of a lb. f.0.b., including premium on exchange; 94 tons were sold f.o.b. Auckland at a lb. net for finest and a lb. net for first grade; 18 tons were sold locally at an average price of Is Id a lb., and 20 tons remained in store at the date of balance and had been valued at 9|d f.o.b. The sum of £9OB was paid for finest grade cream, as against £867 last year. The surplus on tho season's working would enable a further payment of Id a lb. on all butter-fat supplied for the season. A dividend of 5 per cent was recommended to shareholders. The sales of butter over the whole season amounted -to £35.793. The average return, including cream carted, was 11.507 d a lb. butter-fat. The suppliers of the,factory total 218.
