PRIZES FOR RECIPES.

THE SCHOOL LUNCH. One of the problems that faces many mothers is that of providing a nourishing and appetising lunch for the boy or girl who is going to school. It is really an important meal and yet, in the morning rush, there is often no time to think out something that is appetising, nutritious, and satisfying, Hie mother who gives her children a haphazard kind of school lunch, on the assumption that any thing does, fails in the most important item of her child-rearing work, for in building brain and body suitable food is most essential.

To help in the solution of this problem the Herald offers two prizes for the best and second best school lunch.

The prizes offered are one guinea for the first and half a guinea for the second. Other meritorious entries will be accepted at the rate of 2s 6d each and published.

The judging will be carried out by Mrs. A. M. Mann, lady demonstrator at the Auckland Gas Company's cookery department.

COMPETITION No. 11. First prize, £1 Is; second prize, 10s 6d Best School Lunch for a Child. It is essential that it should be satisfying and appetising and at the same time should contain the best food values or nutrition. State the cost.

Itecipes may. be written or typed. II not typed they should be written clearly in ink on one side of the paper only. The name and full address of the competitor should be written on a separate slip of paper.

Entries should be addressed: New Zealand Herald, Auckland, and competitors are asked to write on the outside of the envelope, " Cookery Competition, No. 2."

Competition No. 2, as announced above, will be open until Saturday, July 23. AIV entries must reach the Herald Office not later than the last mail on that day;

The result will be announced on Wednesday, July 27. The winning recipes will be published along with the award. Readers may with confidence adopt and use all prize-winning ancl selected.recipes.

Great interest has been taken, in the No. 1 Competition—dinner of three courses—all entries for which must reach the Herald Office not later than the last mail to-day. The result of this competition will be announced next Saturday.
