Mrs. H. Jennings, of Sheffield, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Grand Hotel.
Mrs. Warwick Gregory, of Wadestown, Wellington, left Auckland by the Mariposa for Sydney.
Lady Herdman and Miss Joyce Herdman left yesterday with Sir Alexander Herdman for Dargaville.
Miss Doris Grant Cowen returned to Auckland by the Zealandia, which arrived from Sydney yesterday.
The first Christchurch girl to be entitled to use the letters A.R.1.8.A. is Miss Beryl Bickerton, who has been studying at the famous school of architecture in Bedford Row, London. She recently gained her diploma with honourable mention.
The opinion has been expressed by the Northcoto Women's Progressive League that the administration of the Mental Hospital should be placed in a board similar to that which controls the Auckland Public Hospital and has suggested that the one board might govern both these institutions. A remit to this effect has been forwarded to the National Council of Women for consideration.
An illuminated address, a wallet and smoker's outfit were presented by the children of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Northcoto, to the Rev. Father J. O'Reilly, who has removed to Dominion Road, to assist Dean W. Murphy. The function took place at the home of Mrs. J. Horan, in Clarence Street, Northcote. Miss Betty Horan read the address on behalf of the children, and the presentation of the. wallet and smoker's outfit was made by Miss Nancy Honan.
The annual meeting of the Remuera branch of the Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary was held last week, when Mrs. J. H. Carr, the president, presided. Warm appreciation and thanks were expressed to those who had held office for the past year, and officers for the ensuing year were appointed. Mrs. Carr was unanimously elected presideut again; secretary, Mrs. Roberts; treasurer, Mrs. Ready. The Dominion president's quarterly letter was read, reference being made to the good work carried on both in the Solomon Islands and in Kurahuna, the Maori girls' home at Onehunga.
At the annual meeting of the Henderson Methodist Missionary Auxiliary Mrs. Piatt presided. The secretary's report showed considerable work had been done during the year. The treasurer's report was also satisfactory considering the times. The election of officers was as follows:—Pvesident, Mrs. Piatt; vicepresident, Mrs. Freeman; secretary, Mrs. Williams; treasurer, Mr£ Grainger; representative to council, Miss Bridson; look-out, Mrs. Elcoat; tea convener, Mrs. J-lutchinson; representative to quarterly meeting, Mrs. Elcoat; gift stall manager, Mrs. Carey.
The lady workers of St. George's parish, Epsom, have had an exceptionally crowded and busy week. On Wednesday Mrs. Algy gave a most interesting talk ta the members of the Mothers Union on her recent visit to Finland. Mesdames Mackenzie and Jones acted as hostesses and there was a good attendance. The same afternoon, at her residdence in Bracken Avenue, Mrs. Gal* braith entertained a number of friends at an effort for the forthcoming bazaar. On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Preston Chambers, treasurer of the Ladies Guild, arranged a " bring-and-buy ' at her home, Wyaba, Epsom. Mrs. H. Trevelyan King was the vocalist. A sum of over £ll was realised. The same evening in the hall there was a successful dance. In the absence through sickness of Mrs. Kindred, organiser of the newly-formed Older Girls' Club, Mesdames Galbraith and H. Jones acted as chaperones.
