WINTER EXHIBITION.
LARGE CROWD OF CHILDREN.
POULTRY SHOW OPENS TO-DAY. OTHER POPULAR ATTRACTIONS. Nearly 4000 children from town and (country/ schools visited the Au'ekland Winter Exhibition yesterday in the morn ing and afternoon, while there was a fait attendance of adults during the day and h good rrowd of visitors in the evening With a number of now attractions yet. to be provided, it seems that the show will prove as groat a success as any of its predecessors. Amon§ the country schools which sent parties of children were Campbell's Bay. Alfristojn. Clevedon, Kapiti, Paparata and Mercer, while the Seddon Memorial Tech nical College, Sacred Heart College and the Kowhai District High School were among the city schools represented.
That the interest of the children was no; confined to the side-shows was re vealed by the crowds which gathered round .the industrial exhibits. The edu entire valuo of the exhibition was not missed and it is certain that most of the Visiting pupils will carry, away a wider knowledge of the provnee's resources and industries.
The scone-baking competition, which has drawn unusually large entries, was advanced, a further stage yesterday, while the pupils of the Newton East Manual Training School gave a cooking demonstration, preparing an excellent dinner In the afternoon an entertainment was given by the pupils of the Otahuhu Free Kindergarten. In the evening the Auckland Highland Pipe Band gave a number of selections, and a Scottish concert, which aroused great public interest and filled the large show hall, was given by the Highland and National Dancing Society. the) first section of the Auckland Pbultry, Pigeon and Canary Club's show will open, bantams, pigeons and canaries being benched and judged in the morning. They will replace the commercial rabbit section. The primary and secondary schools baking contests will be continued during the day, while in the evening a further class in the model aeroplape competitions, arranged by the New Zealand Model Aeroplane Association, will bo decided. This will consist or a duration flight for seaplanes, which are required to rise from the water. A ■large pond, similar to that in which model yacht and motor-boat displays were given fast year, will be provided for this programmes will be screened during the day and in the evening Miss Boyle's pupils will give an entertainment.
