The Arbitration Court to-day heard a claim for compensation made by Elizabeth Coutts, a widow, of Christchurcli, arising out of an accident, in which hor husband, John Coutts, a Public Works employee, received fatal injuries .as the result of a landslip near Westport on April 3. The landslip swept over a camp owned by tho department. The department denied liability. The Court held that there had been nothing to prevent Coutts from living in his own camp, and when a man had a right, but not a duty, to live in an employer's hut, the employer was not liable.
