HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening;— The tropical disturbance centred northward of the Dominion is moving slowly south-eastward and the extreme southern edge of the depression is likely to cause further unsettled weather in North Auckland, with intermittent rain. Heavy rain is expected in East Coast districts of the North Island. Mainly fair to fine in places southward of New Plymouth and Napier and fine over most of the South Island. Easterly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale in the north. Rough seas on the east coast, particularly northward from East Cape. Smooth to moderate seas on other coasts. Local outlook; Cloudy and unsettled, with rain following. Cold temperatures. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 30.00 in. Midnight, Monday .. .. 30.25!n. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 55(1eg.; minimum, 44deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported Jast evening as follows While an anti-cyclone over New Zealand has been losing its intensity, a cyclone to the north has gradually deepened, and is now apparently moving southward. Indications. are for strong easterly to southerly winds north of Kawhia and East Cape, of gale force in places. Moderate northerly winds in the far south; elsewhere freshening south-easterly to easterly. Seas rough north of East Cape and rising thence southward to Cook Strait; elsewhere moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, strong south-east to south winds in the northern portion, with rough seas and modferate east to north winds in the southern portion with moderate seas. The weather will be unsettled, dull and misty, with rain developing at first in northern and eastern portions of the North Island, but shortly becoming fairly general.
