The Omnaru Jockey Clubs Winter Meeting is tli© only racing fixture in New Zealand to-c.ay. Two trotting events are included in tlie piog.ranirne of seven races. The Grange Handicap has drawn a field of 15. including a number of horses with winning and placed performances, and should provide a very interesting contest. Telegraphing last evening our Canterbury correspondent stated that tine weather was promised., and the track would be fast. The following: horses were expected to bo well supported:— Steeplechase.—Lancer, Antrim Boy, Barneses.. Novice Stakes.—Topthorn, Gold Dress, Palenlua.. Oaniaru Trot.—Guyziah, Little Claire, Cloudy Range. Grange Handicap.—Mount Boa. Bavine, Water Power. Winter Hack.—Craigavon, Ballauce, Silver Salvor. "Waika.ua Trot.—Hard Words, Chenwood. To Kinga. JUMPERS FOR TRENTHAM. * FIVE ELLERSLIE HORSES. Tho live Ellerslitj horses who are to cornpete at the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting will leave for Trentham by the afternoon express next Wednesday, when those to make the trip will comprise Clare-' more. Full Mehsure, Town Beauty, Master Lu and Billy Boy. Tho horses have all been working soundly in preparation for their engagements and it should not be for lack of condition if they fail to perform well. Although ho h:is been nominated. Neil will not be a competitor at Trentham. There is nothing amisu with Neil r.nd he will bo kept goinij steadily with a view to other :ncetings. TRAINING AT TRENTHAM. Tho outside of the course proper was in use, but there was nothirg exceptional about the work. Aroma showoi most speed during tho morning, running four furlongs in 50Ja and finishing a couple of lengths in front of Gold Snnd. Aromj, has always, been a good track-worlter. Nornandy was let off with three-auarter pace over six furlongs. Might and Princo Pombil doing similar work together. Lati> Jest ran four in 6215, Cardinal Moon takinf; 553. Capij of Good Hope's time was 525, with New Era two lengths back. Vitaphone, who is well after his double success at Napier, did un easy half with Posy. Cimabuo did his usual three-quarter pace six furlongs, nnd Eminent and Lyrical again ran fh-e in 1.71. Joio de Val and Tobaccoland ran seven furlorcrs. As usual. Tobaccoland pulled hard at the start and put a break on his mate, but she rail up to him in the straight nnd they finished together in 1.30. Joio de Val is working well. Arrswzone was no good to Pahu oyer j" ur furloi.gs in 51s, £i good efTort for a hurdler. Pahu is well muscled up with his recent jumping. He will be ridden by M. 11 • Nicol at tho Wellington meeting. . Historic is being kept going in view of n. possible visit to Australia, although nothing definito lias been decided upon.
