MANAWATU HORSES.

TRACK WORK AT AWAPUNI.

PREPARATION OF JUMPERS

CONJURER 11. AND CALLAMART

[from our own correspondent.]

1 ALMERS TON NORTH, Thursday

Trainers at Awapuni have lately had their operations considerably restricted bv indifferent weather, but there was a great improvement, this morning and a number of horses executed useful work on the outside of the course proper.

Bee Aero and Nebulae, two two-year-olds from J. P. Coyle's stable, showed promise in tho heavy going by running three furlongs in 40 1-5. Both give indication of developing into useful sorts. , Saltpot and Bonny Vale, who are to race at lrentham, strode over sis furlongs, the last five in 1.13 1-5. without being extended. Headland, who will not raco until the second day at Trentham. ran a comfortable tivo furlongs in 1.15.

Lady Court, who looks in great order, after running tho first two furlongs in *" completed five in l.i) r a very s&tislactory effort in view of the going. Conjurer 11. and Callamart jumped away at. the mile peg to run the first two furlongs in 30 4-ss, fivo in 1.15 3-5. and tho full distance m 1.58 2-5. Conjurer 11. was a 'eneUi and a-half clear at the finish. Both suouid give good accounts of themselves at i rcntham. Warzono, who has been nominated for jumping events at Trentham and Riccarton. covered a niilo in 1.53 after running tho first ,'°,' u rlonga in 30s. War/one is now in U. W. jNgw'b charge. Sporting Chance's Gallop. Easterly, who jumped away somewhat sciatchily, took I.2'J 3-5 for six furlongs. ».>porting Ctiance, who has grown into an attractive-looking horse, ran seven 111 1.42 2-5. He has not raced since May of last year, but the patience of his owner sliouk' meet with its reward. Interlocutor, Thrasher and Rioghail were associated in a working gallop, but tho pace was not on until the last two furlongs, and interlocutor beat his companions home. Iho Minor ran a milo at a steady paco without being asked to extend himself. Ho is growing into a good-looking horse and might well prove himself as a stayer. Trouble and Commentator, two of L. Knapp's team, executed a strong working gallop. Tho former has been taken in hand in preparation for his Hunt Cup en-, gagement at the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club's meeting. Commentator is a solid-looking chestnut gelding by Thurnhiyji, who is owned bv Mr. W. H. Gaisford, of Orinei. At 0110 time he was an inmate of O. Jones' Rtablo when that trainer had Mr. Gaisford's team at Awapuni. Inflation in Good Health, Chief Marionette, tho half-sister to Santonio and Santiago, has grown into a big filly. Her three-yoar-old record should be good. W. Stone did not return to Awapuni after tho Napier Park meeting, but waited for the Hawke's Bay Hunt fixture. His team is freelv engaged at Trentham. Mr. J. J. Waller, owner of Gaswyn. has leased a Lackham two-year-old bred bv liinj from the Acre—Absurdity mare Accredits. The dam was a fine bier fill v. but proved somewhat of disappointment on the racecourse. The youngster is a shapely sort. Not a great deal is being asked of Inflation ft present, but he looks a picture of health. He continues to get through steady work, but it is not intended to wind him up fully before he leaves for Australia. Mrs. McDonald has a newcomer in the Lackham—Queen's Maid four-year-old gelding Joe, who was formerlv trained at Taradale. Joe is a big upstanding type, but at present is somewhat light in condition. Patearoa and Decree Nisi, both of whom were treated to a spell some little time ago, look all the better for it. particularly the former.

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. NOMINATION OF OFFICERS. The following nominations havo been received for Ihe seven vacant seats on tho committee of the Auckland Trotting Club Messrs. T. J. W. Buxton, I*l. R. Davis; H. Morpeth. F. C. Marks, IT. Tt. Mackenzie, J. W. Ryan and John Rowe. For tho stewards Messrs. W. F. Allen, A. M. Hartley, J. Have*. E. S. Kohn. J. McColl. J. F. fihanly, W. C. Watts and A. E. Watkins have been nominated. As in each case tho nominations do not exceed tho number required, an election will not bo necessary. TROTTING CLUB'S YEAR. CANTERBURY PARK PROFIT. On its year's working the Canterbury Park Trotting Club. Christchurch, shows an excess of income over expenditure of £'9s,'i. according to tho annual report of tho club. The total assets exceed the liabilities by £■23.025. Tho continued financial stringency affected tho year's income, and in consequence th.o committee had to reduco stakes. Under these circumstances the returns from all sources could bo considered satisfactory. RACING IN ENGLAND. PRINCESS OF WALES' STAKES. LONDON, Juno 30. The principal race at Newmarket to-day resulted:— PRINCESS OF WALES' STAKES. Sweepstakes of £3O each, with £2OOO added: special weights, 1} miles. JACOPO, _M. Ellis this week. Metal Bird bus shown some useful form lately, but 110 disappointed at Ashburton last Saturday. A SUCCESSFUL NAME. Lady Houston registered her first racing success when R. B. Bennett won tho Prestbury Welter at. Manchester 011 May 21. R. B. Bennett is a three-year-old colt bv Salmon Trout from Irish Mint, by Spearmint. The colt is named after Mr. Richard Bedford Bennett.
