WOMAN'S PLACE IN BUSINESS.
Sir, —Your male correspondents, without exception, all err in supposing that everv girl is destined for matrimony, and when married is permanently provided for. How false- this idea is can be amply shewn by thei large number of cmemployed wemsn and girls in tbe Dominion, a large proportion of whom are married women definitely and desperately in need of work as a means to live.. It is not tbe fault of women that they aire forced to work lor a lower rate of wages than that given to men for the same work; employers set the rate of pay, and are largely supported in placing women under this unjust handicap by men employees. It is this factor, stnd not tbe entry of girls into the badness arena, which causes males to be thrown out of employment. In the light oif recent developments of outlook, no adequate reason can be brought forward against the retention of female clerical workers. Woman has a place to fill in the world, and it is no longer bounded by the vralls of her home. " Her right to work need never be questioned] a male worker, single-, or married, is not expected to prove necessity before gaining a position in shop, office cr workroom; under existing disabilities it is highly improbable that, any girl or woman would! desire to go to work unless forced by economic necessity.
