A SEA MONSTER.
Sir, —Having seen an account of a sea monster in the Heeald a few days ago, I thought it might be interesting to state that some years ags I, with two other men, saw exactly the samis thing one beautiful Sunday afternoon on the west coast, just outside the breakers, at the back of Dargaville. We were strolling along the coast when we saw' this monster rear slowly straight up to what appeared to be 50ft. or 40ft and then full like a long log, sending spray in all directions. It repeated this three times, rising slowlv to about the same height each time, Mr. Munroe and Mt. Black describe the shape exactly as I saw it. I reported the matter to the Auckland Weekly News and someone answered and said it was a splendid description of a fight with a thrasher shark and a whale. I never saw an encounter of the kind, but I think the motion was too slow to be a nqht of any land, I have seen many black fish, but the monster I saw rose higher out of the water than ifce longest black fish I ever saw.
