At the annual'meeting of flic trustees of the I'liiicdiii Savings Bank, held today, returns of the year's operations showed that the total amount on deposit at. the cud of the year was £2.057,487, as compared with £1.966.386 for the previous year. The amount, is the largest in the history of the bank. Of the deposits, the head office claimed £1.305.973, the South Dunedin branch £443,318. and the North Dunedin branch £303.195. hitcresf credited to depositors, for the year totalled £84,645. The first four months of the year, April to July, were at an interest rate of 4s per cent, and the remaining eight months at per tent. As illustrating the increasing popularity of tie bank, it is pointed out, that in 1931 there was a record number of depositors. namely, 27.024. This record has again been beaten, the number of depositors standing this year at 29.594, Amounts deposited in the bank during the year totalled £981.906, and amounts withdrawn were £975.451. In the previous year the withdrawals exceeded th» deposits by £21.287. BRITISH COMPANIES. , ACCOUNTS FOR PAST YEAR. The accounts of several P>ritish dairy produce and grocery companies were published in London last month. Home and Colonial Stores for the year ended January 2 show net profits of £858,325. an increase of £269,386 in the year. Dividends of 25 per cent, for tlie year ara paid on ordinary capital of £2.110 340. The paid-up capital of the company is £4.234,204 and it has £3.000.000 of reserves. The chief assets of tho company are shares in subsidiaries, w of which the most important are Lipton's, Ltd., and the Meadow Dairy Company; the valua of holdings is £4.918.723. The accounts of Lipton's, Ltd., show net earnings of £214,940.. an increase of £66.223. The Meadow Dairy Company shows profits of £238.724, a decrease of £40,559 on the previous year. The Maypole Dairy Company shows net profits of £476,793 for the year ended January 2, compared with £567,716 earned in the previous year. Dividends on the deferred Capital of the company arc 15 per cent, for the year. The capital of the company is £2.958.333 and it lias reserves of £718,272. '
