INTOXICATED CYCLIST.
ARRESTED IN QUEEN STREET. YOUNG MAN FINED £lO. An allegation that he had been found in a state of intoxication while in chargo of a motor-cycle was admitted by John Andrew Matthews, aged 22, clerk, in tlio Folice Court yesterday. He also pleaded guilty to a further charge of riding a motor-cycle without being the holder of a licence. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that at about 10 p.m. on Saturday two constables saw accused riding up and clown Queen Street on a motor-cycle, which was in low gear and making considerable noise. When tho mt,chine suddenly stalled one of the constables accosted accused, who showed signs of intoxication. Accused was later taken into custody. He had not previously offended. "The cycle belongs to mv brother; I borrowed it ,;ust for the night, ' said Matthews, when asked by the magistrate, Mr. F. K. H jnt, why lie had not taken out a licence. Jn imposing ft fine of £lO, in default one month's imprisonment, on the intoxication charge, the magistrate directed that, accused should be debarred from holding a licence for six months. A conviction without penalty was recorded 011 the other count
