Volumes of smoke are issuing through openings in the earth, killing the vegetation around and affecting householders' water supplios. Many people fear that an explosion may wreck their homes. POSITION GROWS WORSE.

The fire in the colliery at Greta is now more serious. Flames are shooting up above the ground from a spot some distance. from where the smoke is issuing. The fire is endangering the main northern railway.
