UNUSUAL CHARGE.

WATER SUPPLY TURNED ON. CITY COUNCIL PROSECUTION. A charge of unlawfully diverting water from a street water main to a private properly was admitted by Chester Edwin Midwood in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Tho solicitor representing the City Council, which brought tho prosecution, said tha 4 , last February defendant became the tenant of a house in Point Chevalier, tho water supply of which had some months previously been turned off on account of the owner being in arrear in tho payment of rates. When defendant found tho house was without water he turned tho supply on without authority. As the prosecution had been primarily made as a warning to others, and as no harm had been done, tho council was not pressing for the imposition of a fine. The magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, recorded a conviction and ordered Midwood to pay Court costs, 10s, and solicitor's fee, 10s 6d.
