WOMEN CONTROL SCHOOL.
SUCCESSFUL COMMITTEE. Tjhe claim recently made that the Te X?au-a-moa settlement in the Kawhia district is probably the only district in the Dominion to elect a school committee composed entirely of women is challenged by the settlement of Mangatapu. Four years ago Mangatapu, Bom o miles frora Pularuru, elected a committee consisting solely of women. At that time the settlement was a fairly busy timber milling centre and tho women took a particular interest in the provision of educational facilities for the children. The school committee then elected, comprising Mesdames L. D. Dixon, A. S. Winter, H. J. Lilley, M. Geddes and M. Buckthought, controlled tho school with considerable success. The decline of the timber industry caused tho residents to scatter and tho school eventually closed down.
