BRITISH BY-ELECTION.
LABOUR GAINS A SEAT. POLLING FOR WAKEFIELD. LONDON, April 21. A by-clcction for the Wakefield seat rendered vacant by the death of Dr. G. B. Hillman (Conservative) on March 20 was held to-day. The seat was gained by Labour, tho result of the poll being as follows: A. Greenwood (Labour) . . . . 13,587 A. E. Greaves (Natl. Conservative) 13,242 Majority for Labour . . . 345 The polling for the Wakefield seat at the last general election resulted as follows:—Dr. Hillman (Conservative), 15,881; G. H. Sherwood (Labour), 11,774; Conservative majority, 4107.
