northcote meeting. Tho second annual meeting of the Northcote branch of tho Plunkct Society, held at tho clubroom of tho Northcote Returned Soldiers', was largely attended. Tho hall was beautifully decorated with bowls of handsome dahlias and zinnias from the garden of Mr. A. Campbell, of Ko-rangi. A cordial welcome was extended to the guests and representatives of sister organisations, by tho president, Mrs. A. Campbell, who presided. These included: The Mayoress of Northcote, Mrs. R. Martin, president of tho Northcote Welfare League; tho Mayoress of Birkenhead, Mrs. J. P. McPhail, president of tho Birkenhead Women's Association; Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, patroness, Mrs. F. W. Wilkes, president, and Mrs. A. Taylor, secretary of tho Northcote Women's Progressive League; Mrs. J. F. Potter, president of tho Awataha Girl Guides; Mrs. J. W. Craven (who recently returned from a visit to England, Mrs. F. A. Thompson, Mrs. Castle, Mrs. 11. G. Johnston, member of ' the Motueka Plunket Committee ; Mrs. M. Nielsen, the first secretary of the Northcote Plunket branch; Miss Partridge, of Auckland; Miss Chapman, charge nurso at Auckland headquarters of the Plunket Society; and Miss Eileen Partridge, hon. secretary of tho Auckland branch of tho Plunket Societ v.
After formal business was disposed of Miss Partridge acceded to tlie request to preside over tho gathering. Tho various reports were of a very satisfactory character. The committee had expended £lO in supplying Karitane products gratuitously in necessitous cases. Expenditure had totalled £45 and the annual dance would be held ori May 26 to provide next. year's quota. Nurse J. R. Campbell stated that there had been 2078 visits to tho Northcoto riunket rooms, an increase of 810, compared with tho previous year. Mrs. Noel Campbell reporter] that owing to tho good offices of the Northcoto committee, the Plunket nurse had regularly visited Birkenhead homes throughout the year on three Tuesdays in each month, and urgent cases every Tuesday, besides which Birkenhead mothers were able to attend at tho Northcoto rooms every week.
Thanks were recorded to Mesdames N. .T. Campbell, Mervyn Campbell, J. C. Yeomans. C. E. Kerry, R. C. Morloy and Miss L. Court, for providing free motorcar transport which enabled Nurse Campbell to undertake these visits. Mr. and Mrs, E. Maxwell were also thanked for providing transport on occasions at Northcote.
Nurse Chapman, who started with Sir Truby King in 1910, pave a comprehensive review of tho Plunket movement from the foundation, and traced tho growth of child welfare work throughout the world. This address was greatly enjoyed, and Miss Chapman was heartily thanked for her informative and interesting talk.
Miss Eileen Partridge warmly congratulated the women comprising the Northcoto Plunket organisation on the spirit displayed, and stated they never were dismayed bv difficulties or depression. No committee had worked harder or done better, and great success had attended tho efforts. Creator advantage was beincr taken of (he Plunket service in tho distric( s covered.
