HAMILTON ANGLICANS.

ST. PETER'S PARISH AFFAIRS*

BISHOP TO ACT AS DEAN.

[from our own correspondent. ]

HAMILTON, Thursday. -A There was an attendance of 150 at tn» annual meeting of parishioners of • St. ; Peter's parish, Hamilton, last evening. Dean G. R. Barnett presided.

The people's warden, Sir. J. T. Eeid, said the financial position was most disappointing. The cathedral's general receipts had fallen by £7l, while the mission offertory had increased by £7B. The district contributions had increased to £173, as against £134 last year. Although tho income for the year had exceeded the expenditure by £lO, £IOO had been due in stipends and £9O to the bank on March 31. The stipends had since been paidNn full. Hie balance-sheet showed assets valued at £13,382. Bishop Cherrington said more money had been spent on buildings in out-dis-tricts than in support of the spiritual work of the church. Dean Barnett said he had carried on single-handed for part of the year owing to lack of money. He paid a tribute to the work of the lay-readers,,_JSunday School teachers and others who had assisted.

Bishop Cherrington said that when : Dean Barnett left the parish in June he himself would act as dean until the niort- _ gages and debts were paid off and until • tho parish was in a position to support two assistant clergy. He desired that tho now dean, when appointed, should he given fresh support, and that his work ; should not be hampered by debt. Bishop Cherrington said he would not be abl" to do all the work himself, but would carry on with such assistance as tho parish could afford. He was already nominal, vicar of six parishes, as the men working in them, although doing splendid work, were too young to bo made vicars. The following officers were elected Vicar's warden, Mr. D. Hay; people 8 warden, Mr. J. T. Reid; chapter, Messrs. J. G. Bateson, A. C. Dimock, E. A. Houston, W. Baird, F. H. Claphani, H. S Innes-Jones, C. D. King, L. V. Judd, H Mayo and G.
