HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. SQUALLY, WITH SHOWERS. Th following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent' last evening:—A depression of the westerly typo is now located over the Dominion, and is centred in the South Island. Expect squally and unsettled weather in western and southern districts, with heavy showers. Mainly fair to fine in east coast areas. Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale at times. Rough seas on the west coast. Local outlook : Squally, with heavy showers, although fair intervals will intervene. Thunder probable. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, rising . . 29.95 in. Midnight, Tuesday . . . . 30.00 in. Temperature in shado yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 65deg.; Minimum, G2dcg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—One of a series of intense westerly depressions has been crossing the Dominion to-day. Indications are for strong north-westerly winds of galo force in places, backing to westerly and at times to south-westerly. Seas heavy south of Cape Egmont, elsewliero fairly rough to rough. In the eastern Tastnan Sea, strong winds to gales between north-west and south-west. The weather will be unsettled, squally and changeable, with rain at times in most districts, but more, especially in those in the west, where some further heavy falls are likely. RAINFALL RECORD.
