ASSAULT ON CHINESE.

MAN USES A HAMMER. FRUITERER STRUCK ON HEAD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON. Wednesday. A Chinese fruiterer, Loo Sui, was the victim of a brutal assault about 10 o'clock this evening, when, on going toward the back door of his shop in Queen Street, he was struck a heavy blow on the forehead with a hammer by a man, who was hiding in the back of the premises. Recovering quickly from the blow Loo Sui ran into the street to seek assistance, his assailant disappearing out of the back door into an alleyway. Loo Sui received a deep gash 2in. long above the left eye. Nothing was taken from the shop.
