DISCHARGED PRISONERS.

WORK OF AID SOCIETY. That the riots which occurred in the city on Thursday and Friday evenings were not taken part in by ex-prisoners of Mount Eden prison who have passed through the hands of the Auckland Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society, was a point stressed by the Rev. G. E. Moreton, secretary and treasurer of the society, and chaplain of Mount Eden prison, when addressing the guests at a bridge afternoon held in the Milne and Choyce. Reception Hall yesterday in aid of funds for tlie society. In appealing for support for the organisation, Mr. Moreton pointed out that the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society should be an insurance against crime and a protection for the property of tho people because every man the society helped to rehabilitate in tho community became an asset. to it. Tho bridge afternoon, which was organised by Miss V. A. D'Arcy Jones, honorary organising secretary of the ladies' committee, with the assistance of Mrs. G. E. Moreton and Miss Teape, was very enjoyable, and in spite of the unfavourable weather which threatened in (lie morning, there was a fair attendance. Among the players were:—Mrs. E. A. Reid, Mrs. ,T.
