LADIES' ASSOCIATION. SUCCESSFUL PAST YEAR. Last season was a successful one, according (o thg> report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association to-day. Tho report states that not only did tho association increaso its team strength for its local competitions and in connection with its snbassociations, but also received record entries for tho King's Birthday and country week tourneys. A very successful country week tournament was held in Auckland from .Tuly ir! to IS inclusive. Four Auckland teams and It sub-associations' teams entered at the outset, but tho Thames Association was forced to withdraw. This was an increase of two on entries received for the 10:30 tourney and tho largest number of entries yet received for the tourney. It was to bo'regretted that Tatiranua, AVhakatnne. Rancitaiki and Waihi wore absent for the second successive season. After many unsuccessful applications, the New Zealand ladies' hockey tourney was allotted to Auckland, and proved an outstanding success. The sum of £SB 7s wns mndo for distribution among the participating associations.
The association again entered teams in the Auckland Girls' Athletic Association's sports and the Auckland Girls' Cricket Association's junior competition. Very few outside games were arranged, due chiefly to the fact that clubs exercised all their activities in endeavouring to secure their quotas for the New Zealand tourney fund. Tho balance-sheet shows a satisfactory position. In spit" of all the outstanding expenses, the credit balance of A'3l (is 2d is considered very good.
